It's very encouraging to see polite discussion and respectful disagreement on the thread here. It gives you a small sense of hope that we the people aren't as jacked up as the professional politicians.

I've already cast my ballot and would encourage others who haven't to get out and do so. Regardless of how you feel abbout our nation's military service men and women, understand this, one of them will likely die today in service to their fellow Americans to preserve and defend your right to vote.

As a retired Vet (24 years career submarine officer) I implore you to exercise your freedoms today - it was my greatest pleasure serving all of you.

Be Well all.

thank you for your service, i was seriously thinking of not voting today, as I'm less than inspired to vote for Obama or mcCain...underwhelmed.
Your post sealed the deal, I'm going to vote soon.
Hopefully, it will cancel out some bitter Alaskan's vote, or perhaps some acorn brain's.
Toodaloo!

Actually our votes wiil cancel each others in the sense that your State is in the bag for my preferred choice and my State is in the bag for yours.

Thanks BD, you just about summed up the hare-brained kochman/rastamon/noise mayker thread.
Sometimes our votes seem worthless because of our politicians (especially "new labour" in Britain),but it's still a bloody vote which our ancestors literally fought over. You guys have a proud tradition from the Revolution via the Wobblies,Civil Rights... I just hope Obama can continue this.
It's past midnight,I'm working tomorrow,so I'm going to bed looking forward to a new dawn.

Hey Johnnie--good to see you hear making your voice heard. We don't have much to do what with the decline of the PATS; besides, it wouldn't be fair to Dire...

Hope all is well.

Tell me about it; can you believe the AZ Cardinals!?! The team I love to hate more than the PATS? I have to get on the wagon, much as I loathe the mismanagement of this team...what a weak division!

are you telling me that the bidwell's are not the model of a top-notch nfl organization???

I must have read the az republic for too long...talk about a paper made for fish wrap, or in the case of phoenix birdcages...

well looking at the standings and the division it is being handed to them on a silver platter...four or their remaining 8 are within the division...though they also have the giants, eagles, pats and vikes...

seattle: holmgren is lost thinking about a long deserved vacation or san francisco...btw: the seattle times seahawk forum can be pretty entertaining these days...

san francisco: singletary is dropping his pants and hoping the interim label can be dropped...boy are they bad...another team with "fine" ownership...

st louis: they had a coaching replacement as well...haslett gave them a two game bump but then they returned to losing two straight...

the year of the cards...at least to take the west...

yeah, and it's hard for a home grown 49er fan...argh...

however, the Cards may still find a way to screw it up!

there is always time to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

too bad about the Raiders and the Niners though...how the mighty have fallen.

well, here we go: covered all the important topics tonight, didn't we? politics, military history, sports and 68 StSt!

good job V!

thanks, just trying to sweat out these final moments...

funny, I was thinking the other day who would it be worse to work for davis or the yorks; and as little respect that I have come to have for al, I think I would take him over the yorks...

at least al knows football...it might be 1970s football but it still beats the yorks/de bartolos...

but, yes it is pretty ugly around here these days on sunday...not that I am a fan of either team, but you can still feel the losing...of course you don't feel it in the bay area as much as you do in other locales but you can definitely feel the losing in the air...

Looks like Obama won.

Biggest mistake of Mcain: "the fundamentals are strong (whoops, what just happened to the DOW?)"

I read someplace where the world was waiting to see if we would act like the people that we purport ourselves to be today and possibly we lived up to our own billing for a change.

glad it is over...and admittedly I feel better about the place...

plus I don't have to fulfill my pact and move to the pictarin islands and marry a christian woman...

First words out of my 5 year olds mouth this morning:

"How come John McCain 's not My President?"

Me: "Well, he did not win the Election"

I am so proud of America at this moment. Even if an Obama administration becomes a shipwreck, which I don't believe it will, America has finally become a place where even an African American child who grew up poor in a family on public assistance can rise to such a position. His campaign motto was true: "Yes we can!" Martin Luther King's dream has become reality.

no on hate, yes on 8 - Depends on the motivation. I'll go with the VOTERS and McCain/Obama on the marrige issue.

I'm willing to bet that marrige between "of age" siblings, first & second cousins- etc, will soon be protected. After all, one can adopt. It's the LOVE that counts, baby!
